Indian equity benchmarks are poised to open little changed on Thursday amidst a mixed trend in markets across Asia, and caution ahead of the June WPI inflation data and the start of the Q1 corporate earnings season with IT major TCS set to unveil its April-June 2016-17 quarter financial report card today. The CNX Nifty Index Futures for July delivery were trading up by 0.01 per cent or by 1 point to 8,518 at 10:45 AM Singapore time, signaling that Dalal Street may open on a flattish note today. Wholesale inflation for May 2016 stood at 0.79 per cent, marking a second straight month of faster gains. India’s consumer inflation accelerated to a 22-month high at 5.77 per cent in June 2016, diminishing hopes of a rate cut by the RBI next month. Meanwhile, TCS, the country’s biggest IT software services exporter will kick off the first quarter earnings season today. Analysts expect the company to post a 4.7 per cent sequential drop in net profit to Rs 6,038 crore in Q1 FY 2015-16. Marking a third straight day of gains, the 30-share Sensex, on Wednesday ended at 27,815.18, up by 7.04 points or by 0.03 per cent in choppy trade as traders looked ahead to the corporate earnings season while upbeat factory data supported sentiment.

Asian stocks were trading mixed after the biggest three-day advance since April while caution ahead of Friday’s Chinese Q2 GDP data weighed on sentiment. China’s Shanghai Composite fell amid speculation that the country’s economy probably grew at the weakest pace since the global financial crisis at 6.6 per cent in the April-June 2016 quarter. Hang Seng was trading tad higher while Japan’s Nikkei 225 advanced despite a stronger yen. Wall Street ended mixed on Wednesday as a plunge in energy shares amid falling oil prices weighed.
