The Indian benchmarks continued bearish trade in late morning deal on Thursday, led by losses across oil & gas and auto space, tracking mixed cues from fellow Asian stocks with speculation of a December US Federal Reserve interest rate hike rising. The undertone remained cautious as traders roll over their positions ahead of November derivative contract expiry today.

At 12:15 hours, the 30-share benchmark index was trading at 25955.26, down by 96.55 points or by 0.37 per cent, and the NSE Nifty was at 8001.9, down by 31.4 points or by 0.39 per cent.  

In the day’s trade so-far, Sensex touched an intraday high of 26049.14 and intraday low of 25880.78, while the NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 8013.65 and intraday low of 7973.95.

The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Tata Motors Ltd. (Rs. 457.25,-3.00%), NTPC Ltd. (Rs. 156.80,-1.97%), ICICI Bank Ltd. (Rs. 260.95,-1.53%), Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone Ltd. (Rs. 259.80,-1.40%), GAIL (India) Ltd. (Rs. 407.10,-1.26%), among others.

On the flip side, Infosys Ltd. (Rs. 934.85,+1.56%), Bajaj Auto Ltd. (Rs. 2634.30,+1.49%), Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (Rs. 2185.10,+1.32%), State Bank of India (Rs. 261.15,+0.93%), Asian Paints Ltd. (Rs. 951.00,+0.90%), were among top gainers on the BSE.

On the sectoral front, oil&gas and auto stocks emerged as top losers, falling as much as 1.02 per cent and 0.88 per cent respectively.

The market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was strong. On BSE out of total shares traded 2449, shares advanced were 1303 while 995 shares declined and 151 were unchanged.
