The key domestic benchmark stayed under selling pressure in late morning deal on Thursday, dragged down by metal and capital goods stocks, tracking weak cues from fellow Asian peers. In line with the benchmark indices, the broader market witnessed sharp selling with Mid Cap and Small Cap indices dipped 1.35 per cent and 1.15 per cent respectively.

At 12:20 hours, the 30-share barometer index of Bombay Stock Exchange, Sensex was at 26020.46, down by 221.92 points or by 0.85 per cent, and the NSE Nifty was at 7988.1, down by 73.2 points or by 0.91 per cent.

In the day’s trade so far, the BSE Sensex touched intraday high of 26248.45 and intraday low of 25997.76, while the NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 8046.45 and intraday low of 7981.6.

The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 393.00,-2.94%), Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone Ltd. (Rs. 267.70,-2.21%), Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 197.20,-2.11%), State Bank of India (Rs. 249.95,-2.04%), Bharti Airtel Ltd. (Rs. 296.75,-1.79%), among others.

On the flip side, Wipro Ltd. (Rs. 463.85,+0.28%), Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (Rs. 2314.25,+0.06%), were among top gainers on BSE.

On the sectoral front, all the thirteen indices were bleeding in red, while metal and capital goods stocks emerged as top losers, falling as much as 2.46 per cent and 1.32 per cent respectively.

The market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 2570, shares advanced were 503 while 1931 shares declined and 136 were unchanged.
