Indian equities are likely to open on a flat to higher note on Wednesday as decline in November retail inflation fuels hopes that the Reserve Bank of India will cut key rate soon. The investors will also keep an eye on the US Federal Reserve policy meet to know Janet Yellen’s stand on the much-awaited and widely anticipated interest rate hike. Bullish trend in the SGX Nifty Index Futures for December delivery, which were trading at 8,227.00, up by 11 points or 0.13 per cent, at 10:46 AM Singapore time, signaling a positive start for Sensex.

Overseas, Asian markets were trading lower as Chinese and Hong Kong shares fall as traders remained wary ahead of the outcome of the US Federal Reserve meeting. The US stocks extended rally on Tuesday, with the Dow Jones industrial average inching close to 20,000 mark, as investors are widely convinced the Federal Reserve will hike interest rates for the first time this year.

On Tuesday, the key domestic benchmark indices ended higher on strong buying by domestic investors in the final hour of day’s trade ahead of inflation data to be released later today. The market sentiments got a lift by string buying in index heavyweights such as Tata Motors, Infosys, Adani Ports, Axis Bank, Wipro and RIL. The 30-share benchmark index closed trade at 26697.82, up by 182.58 points or by 0.69 per cent and the NSE Nifty ended at 8221.8, up by 51 points or by 0.62 per cent.

Top traded Volumes on NSE Nifty were Tata Motors Ltd. 63880404.00, Hindalco Industries Ltd. 9690930.00, ICICI Bank Ltd. 9332383.00, State Bank of India 9084137.00, Axis Bank Ltd. 8404874.00.

On NSE, total number of shares traded was 79.56 Crore and total turnover stood at Rs. 18050.07 Crore.

On NSE Future and Options, total number of contracts traded in index futures was 165674 with a total turnover of Rs. 10953.59 Crore. Along with this total number of contracts traded in stock futures were 388823 with a total turnover of Rs. 26072.72 Crore. Total numbers of contracts for index options were 2155842 with a total turnover of Rs. 0.08 Crore and total numbers of contracts for stock options were 229253 with a total turnover of Rs. 0.00 Crore.

The FIIs on December 13, 2016 stood as net buyer in equity, but net seller in debt segment. Gross equity purchased stood at Rs. 6379.87 Crore and gross debt purchased stood at Rs. 1461.28 Crore, while the gross equity sold stood at Rs. 6045.84 Crore and gross debt sold stood at Rs. 1706.92 Crore. Therefore, the net investment of equity and debt reported were Rs. 334.03 Crore and Rs. -245.64.
