The key domestic benchmark indices continued to trade higher in late morning deal on Monday, albeit paring most of early gains, as investors shrugged off Donald Trump’s protectionist policies shifted focus to domestic events. Investors await the earnings reports of index heavyweights such as, Hindustan Unilever, Idea Cellular and Bharti Infratel, to be released later in the day.

At 12:25 hours, the 30-share barometer index of Bombay Stock Exchange, Sensex was at 27066.29, up by 31.79 points or by 0.12 per cent, and the NSE Nifty was at 8371.95, up by 22.6 points or by 0.27 per cent.

In the day’s trade so far, the BSE Sensex touched intraday high of 27167.79 and intraday low of 26963.58, while the NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 8404.15 and intraday low of 8327.2.

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were GAIL (India) Ltd. (Rs. 470.60,+2.34%), Lupin Ltd. (Rs. 1484.90,+1.58%), Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 200.40,+1.52%), Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 460.50,+1.30%), Tata Motors Ltd. (Rs. 529.90,+1.29%), among others.

On the flip side, ICICI Bank Ltd. (Rs. 256.45,-2.64%), Larsen & Toubro Ltd. (Rs. 1398.00,-1.17%), Axis Bank Ltd. (Rs. 445.60,-1.09%), Bharti Airtel Ltd. (Rs. 317.50,-1.00%), Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (Rs. 855.00,-0.71%), were among top losers on BSE.

On the sectoral front, metal and oil&gas stocks were leading the gain, advancing as much as 1.53 per cent and 1.14 per cent respectively.

The market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was positive. On BSE out of total shares traded 2711, shares advanced were 1550 while 982 shares declined and 179 were unchanged.
