The key domestic benchmark indices continued to gain momentum during the noon trading session amid fresh buying in index heavyweights including Tata Motors, Gail, Wipro, NTPC and Hero MotoCorp among others.

At 12:15 hours, the 30-share benchmark index was trading at 29264.79 up by 97.11 points or by 0.33 per cent, while the NSE Nifty was at 9065.8 up by 35.35 points or by 0.39 per cent.

In the firm trade so-far, Sensex touched intraday high of 29315.18 and intraday low of 29198.08 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 9076.35 and intraday low of 9048.6.

Investors took some encouragement with Finance Minister Arun Jaitley’s statement that India’s GDP can grow by 7-8 percent if the global economy picks up. He also said the government is hopeful of implementing from July 1 the Goods and Service Tax (GST) to help check tax evasion.

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Tata Motors Ltd. (Rs. 471.90,+2.61%), GAIL (India) Ltd. (Rs. 375.60,+1.80%), NTPC Ltd. (Rs. 163.10,+1.49%), Wipro Ltd. (Rs. 509.00,+1.49%), Hero MotoCorp Ltd. (Rs. 3356.00,+1.37%), among others.

The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were ITC Ltd. (Rs. 278.05,-0.61%), Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (Rs. 900.00,-0.50%), HDFC Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1424.90,-0.44%), Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (Rs. 2470.55,-0.34%), Cipla Ltd. (Rs. 593.50,-0.17%), among others.

Among the sectors, Oil&Gas index was at 13447.9 up by 174.48 points or by 1.31%. Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 524.85,+2.72%), Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 658.40,+2.14%), GAIL (India) Ltd. (Rs. 375.60,+1.80%), Indian Oil Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 378.75,+1.69%), Oil India Ltd. (Rs. 332.50,+1.13%),.

On the flip side, FMCG index was at 9166.87 down by -11.71 points or by -0.13%. Gujarat Ambuja Exports Ltd. (Rs. 110.10,-2.35%), Gillette India Ltd. (Rs. 4069.20,-1.11%), Britannia Industries Ltd. (Rs. 3290.95,-1.09%), ITC Ltd. (Rs. 278.05,-0.61%), Nestle India Ltd. (Rs. 6300.00,-0.55%),.

The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 2737 , shares advanced were 1694 while 882 shares declined and 161 were unchanged.

On the global front, Asian peers were trading mostly in green as investors awaited the fate of a key legislative plank of the Republican party-controlled congress and presidency to repeal and replace a healthcare law dubbed Obamacare.
