The Indian benchmarks are set to open higher on Friday but the market may continue to remain rangebound on mixed global cues. But the downsides will remain limited and an upward bias will prevail.

Positive trend in the SGX Nifty Index Futures for March delivery, which were trading at 9117, up by 15 points or 0.16 per cent, at 10:58 AM Singapore time, signaled a flat to higher opening for the domestic bourses.

On Thursday, the Indian equity benchmarks rebounded strongly, with indices reversing most of losses incurred in last session, as investors' risk appetite was sparked after the finance minister allayed investors' fears over an amendment to the Finance Bill giving more powers to income tax (I-T) officials. The 30-share barometer index of Bombay Stock Exchange, Sensex closed at 29332.16, up by 164.48 points or by 0.56 per cent, and the NSE Nifty ended at 9086.3, up by 55.85 points or by 0.62 per cent.

On NSE, total number of shares traded was 115.37 Crore and total turnover stood at Rs. 24331.15 Crore. On NSE Future and Options, total number of contracts traded in index futures was 171844 with a total turnover of Rs. 12670.70 Crore. Along with this total number of contracts traded in stock futures were 631073 with a total turnover of Rs. 47672.35 Crore. Total numbers of contracts for index options were 7769334 with a total turnover of Rs. 620765.15 Crore. and total numbers of contracts for stock options were 394322 with a total turnover of Rs. 30590.86 Crore.

The FIIs on 23/03/2017 stood as net buyer in equity and debt. Gross equity purchased stood at Rs. 6619.87 Crore and gross debt purchased stood at Rs. 5617.88 Crore, while the gross equity sold stood at Rs. 6409.30 Crore and gross debt sold stood at Rs. 572.78 Crore. Therefore, the net investment of equity and debt reported were Rs. 210.57 Crore and Rs. 5045.10
