The Indian equities continued gaining momentum on Wednesday, with Sensex breaching psychological 30,000 level for the first time since March 2015 and surpassed a record last high, tracking firm cues from global peers as the win for pro-market presidential candidate Emmanuel Macron in the first round of the French presidential election boosted the appetite for riskier assets. The market rally was fueled by upbeat earnings and sustained fund inflows by domestic and foreign institutional investors. IDFC Bank rallied nearly 7 per cent after private sector lender reported a 6.6 per cent rise in its fourth quarter profit at Rs 176 crore, against Rs 165.1 crore in the year-ago quarter.

At 12:23 hour, the Bombay Stock Exchange bellwether Sensex was trading at 30112.5, up by 169.26 points or by 0.57 per cent, and the NSE Nifty was at 9353.95, up by 47.35 points or by 0.51 per cent.During the day’s trade so far, the BSE Sensex touched intra-day high of 30146.54 and intraday low of 30004.28, while the NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 9363.75 and intraday low of 9301.35.

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 1339.70,+2.46%), ITC Ltd. (Rs. 286.65,+1.94%), GAIL (India) Ltd. (Rs. 419.00,+1.80%), Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 1576.00,+1.78%), Tata Motors Ltd. (Rs. 453.15,+1.69%), among others. On the flip side, Infosys Ltd. (Rs. 915.30,-1.47%), Wipro Ltd. (Rs. 489.95,-0.93%), Cipla Ltd. (Rs. 547.80,-0.91%), Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. (Rs. 206.30,-0.79%), Reliance Industries Ltd. (Rs. 1424.90,-0.53%), were among the top losers on BSE.

On the sectoral front, FMCG and metal were among top gainers, rising as much as 1.38 per cent and 1.04 per cent, respectively. The market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 2964, shares advanced were 1303 while 1506 shares declined and 155 were unchanged.
