Mid-Session: Sensex up 230 pts, Nifty reclaim 9,200; Vakrangee hits 52-week high

The Indian equities continued to trade in positive terrain in late morning deal on Tuesday, helped by strong rally in broader market with MidCap and SmallCap indices rising over 1 per cent each, tracking firm cues from fellow Asian peers. IT bellwether Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) were trading flat ahead of March quarter earnings result after its board yesterday approved Rs 16,000-crore share buyback plan.

At 12:16 hour, the Bombay Stock Exchange bellwether Sensex was trading at 29645.71, up by 232.05 points or by 0.79 per cent, and the NSE Nifty was at 9207.9, up by 68.6 points or by 0.75 per cent.

Vakrangee soared over 5 per cent, hitting 52-week high, after the company said that its board has approved to provide the services of GST Registration, filing of returns, payment and other value added services thereunder through Vakrangee Kendra Outlets.

Among others, Gruh Finance, a subsidiary of HDFC, rallied nearly 8 per cent after the company reported a growth of 25.7 per cent in its net profit at Rs 110.45 crore for the fourth quarter ended March 31, 2017, compared to Rs 87.82 crore in the year ago period.

During the day’s trade so far, the BSE Sensex touched intra-day high of 29701.19 and intraday low of 29487.78, while the NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 9217.9 and intraday low of 9159.7.

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone Ltd. (Rs. 331.65,+3.64%), ICICI Bank Ltd. (Rs. 290.55,+3.14%), NTPC Ltd. (Rs. 163.00,+2.42%), GAIL (India) Ltd. (Rs. 400.95,+2.00%), State Bank of India (Rs. 294.50,+1.67%), among others.

On the flip side, Coal India Ltd. (Rs. 281.25,-1.59%), Bharti Airtel Ltd. (Rs. 338.90,-0.66%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (Rs. 674.00,-0.47%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 1266.10,-0.25%), Bajaj Auto Ltd. (Rs. 2846.15,-0.15%), were among the top losers on BSE.

On the sectoral front, all the thirteen indices were trading in green, while power and bankex index emerged as top gainers, adding as much as 1.79 per cent and 1.28 per cent, respectively.

The market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was strong. On BSE out of total shares traded 2887, shares advanced were 1793 while 930 shares declined and 164 were unchanged.
