The Indian benchmarks are set to open flat on Thursday tracking muted cues from Wall Street and other Asian peersThe market is likely to remain volatile on Thursday ahead of April month’s derivative expiry. The markets are not expected to see major fall but profit booking cannot be ruled out. The Asian markets have opened lower after a long-awaited US tax plan failed to inspire investors, while the Wall Street closed lower in the previous trading session after the US President Donald Trump proposed slashing tax rates for businesses and on overseas corporate profits returned to the country in a long-awaited plan which fell short of expectations.

On the corporate front, companies like Biocon, Indiabulls Real Estate, Hatsun Agro, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Maruti Suzuki, Reliance Capital, Syngene International, TVS Motor among others are scheduled to report their results for the quarter ended March 31 later today.

Muted trends in the SGX Nifty Index Futures for April delivery, which were trading at 9339, down by 7 points or 0.07 per cent, at 10:44 AM Singapore time, signalled a flat to lower opening for the domestic bourses.

On Wednesday, the Indian equities extended rally for the third consecutive session, with Sensex breaching crucial psychological 30K level for the first time ever to hit a record high, helped by firm trading across banking, auto and FMCG stocks. The 30-share barometer SENSEX closed at 30133.35, up by 190.11 points or by 0.63 per cent, and the NSE Nifty ended at 9351.85, up by 45.25 points or by 0.49 per cent. Top traded Volumes on NSE Nifty – ITC Ltd. 18942043.00, State Bank of India 13836891.00, ICICI Bank Ltd. 13823109.00, Hindalco Industries Ltd. 13469283.00, Axis Bank Ltd. 11516903.00. On NSE, total number of shares traded was 151.00 Crore and total turnover stood at Rs. 29475.33 Crore. On NSE Future and Options, total number of contracts traded in index futures was 434511 with a total turnover of Rs. 32848.05 Crore. Along with this total number of contracts traded in stock futures were 1721846 with a total turnover of Rs. 129049.79 Crore. Total numbers of contracts for index options were 7458482 with a total turnover of Rs. 576450.01 Crore. and total numbers of contracts for stock options were 713780 with a total turnover of Rs. 56974.70 Crore. The FIIs on 26/04/2017 stood as net buyer in equity and debt. Gross equity purchased stood at Rs. 5660.25 Crore and gross debt purchased stood at Rs. 790.89 Crore, while the gross equity sold stood at Rs. 5334.27 Crore and gross debt sold stood at Rs. 882.07 Crore. Therefore, the net investment of equity and debt reported were Rs. 325.98 Crore and Rs. -91.18.
