The Indian equities were trading higher in choppy trade on late morning deal on Tuesday, helped by strong buying across healthcare and financial stocks, undermining weak cues from Asian markets as investor sentiment was spooked by reports of an early election in Italy. Back home, the market rally was fueled by reports of possible arrival of monsoon on Kerala coast today along with sustained buying by domestic institutional investors. At 12:17 hours, the 30-share barometer Sensex was at 31166.41, up by 57.13 points or by 0.18 per cent, and the NSE Nifty was at 9612.1, up by 7.2 points or by 0.07 per cent. In the day’s trade so far, the BSE Sensex touched intra-day high of 31220.38 and intraday low of 31064.04, while the NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 9631.6 and intraday low of 9581.2. The Indian Rupee extended losing streak against the greenback on Tuesday, falling 10 paise to 64.84 per dollar, amid fresh fund outflows by foreign funds and importers due to strong demand for the American currency. The muted cues from the Indian equity markets also weighed on home currency movement.

Coal India fell nearly 3 per cent, hitting 52-week low, after the state-run mining company reported a 38 per cent decline in its consolidated net profit at Rs 2,716 crore in the fourth quarter ending March 31, 2017, as against Rs 4,398 crore in the corresponding quarter of the previous financial year.
