The Indian equities continues to trade higher in broad-based rally on Tuesday, helped by strong gains in index heavyweights such as Mahindra & Mahindra, Bharti Airtel, Reliance Industries, Hero MotoCorp and ITC, tracking firm global cues. Outperforming the benchmark indices, the broader markets were in upbeat mood, with MidCap and SmlCap index gained between 0.8-1 per cent. RIL hits fresh 52-week high after Mukesh Ambani-led company reported better-than-expected growth of 12.3 per cent in its consolidated net profit after taxes at Rs 8,046 crore for the January-March quarter of FY17, buoyed by higher refining and petrochemical margins.

At 12:20 hour, the Bombay Stock Exchange bellwether Sensex was trading at 29875.43, up by 219.59 points or by 0.74 per cent, and the NSE Nifty was at 9279.6, up by 61.65 points or by 0.67 per cent.The Rupee extended rally against the greenback amid persistent selling of dollar by banks and exporters, while sustained fund inflows by foreign portfolio investors also boosted home currency movement. At the Interbank Foreign Exchange Market, the local currency was up by 21 per cent to trade at 64.24 per dollar against a previous close of 64.45 per dollar at 12:15 hour.

During the day’s trade so far, the BSE Sensex touched intra-day high of 29877.22 and intraday low of 29780.84, while the NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 9283.5 and intraday low of 9250.35. The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 1307.85,+3.43%), Bharti Airtel Ltd. (Rs. 354.30,+3.22%), Reliance Industries Ltd. (Rs. 1441.00,+1.74%), Hero MotoCorp Ltd. (Rs. 3253.60,+1.53%), ITC Ltd. (Rs. 280.00,+1.36%), among others.

On the flip side, NTPC Ltd. (Rs. 164.40,-1.08%), Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (Rs. 2306.10,-0.99%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (Rs. 640.55,-0.33%), Cipla Ltd. (Rs. 554.50,-0.29%), Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 181.15,-0.19%), were among the top losers on BSE. On the sectoral front, all the indices were trading in green, while oil&gas and FMCG stocks emerged as top gainers, rising as much as 1.3 per cent and 1.07 per cent, respectively. The market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was strong. On BSE out of total shares traded 2896, shares advanced were 1579 while 1150 shares declined and 167 were unchanged.
