The Indian equities extended rally in late morning deal on Monday as investors engaged in broad-based buying after latest macro data revealed signs of economic revival. The market rally was fueled by positive economic data after retail inflation eased to 2.99 per cent in April from 3.89 per cent reported in last month, while the wholesale price inflation slipped to a four-month low of 3.85 per cent in April. Idea Cellular tanked 8 per cent after the telecom operator reported consolidated net loss for the second straight quarter at Rs 325.6 crore during the period ended March 31, 2017, compared to net profit of Rs 449.2 crore in the same period a year ago.

At 12:17 hour, the Bombay Stock Exchange bellwether Sensex was trading 30307.25, up by 119.1 points or by 0.39 per cent, and the NSE Nifty was at 9438.25, up by 37.35 points or by 0.4 per cent. Among other, Avanti Feeds spiked 20 per cent and locked in upper circuit after the company reported nearly three-fold jump in its consolidated net profit at Rs 90 crore for the fourth quarter ended March 2017, compared to Rs 46 crore in the year ago period. The Indian Rupee extended gaining streak against the greenback by rising 24 paise on Monday amid fresh selling of dollar by banks and exporters, while sustained fund inflows by foreign portfolio investors also boosted home currency’s movement.In the day’s trade so far, the BSE Sensex touched intra-day high of 30357.96 and intraday low of 30273.62, while the NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 9448.1 and intraday low of 9423.1.

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 452.60,+3.63%), Dr. Reddy's Laboratories Ltd. (Rs. 2655.95,+2.76%), Lupin Ltd. (Rs. 1278.00,+1.90%), ICICI Bank Ltd. (Rs. 302.05,+1.82%), State Bank of India (Rs. 301.40,+1.43%), among others. On the flip side, Infosys Ltd. (Rs. 951.00,-1.34%), Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone Ltd. (Rs. 353.70,-0.97%), Hero MotoCorp Ltd. (Rs. 3511.30,-0.73%), Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (Rs. 2344.25,-0.65%), Wipro Ltd. (Rs. 504.50,-0.45%), were among the top losers on BSE. On the sectoral front, metal and healthcare stocks emerged as top gainers, rising as much as 2.14 per cent and 1.06 per cent, respectively. The market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was strong. On BSE out of total shares traded 2811, shares advanced were 1517 while 1139 shares declined and 155 were unchanged.
