Indian equities are likely to flat with negative bias on Tuesday, tracking muted cues from Nifty futures on the Singapore Stock Exchange and mixed trading across global markets. Muted trend in the SGX Nifty Index Futures for May delivery, which were trading at 9,351.00, down by 06.50 points or 0.07 per cent, at 10:52 AM Singapore time, also signaled flat to negative opening for local bourses. Foreign institutional investors refrained from fresh buying amid mixed bag of corporate earnings, the Fed policy meeting later this week and France’s second round of voting on May 7 which will clear the picture about who will be the next president. Back home, investors will keep an eye on earnings number of Deep Industries, Inox Leisure, JM Financial and Marico, which will be released today. Among others, auto stocks will remain in focus as they will release sales number for the month of April. Investors will also react to earnings report of Dabur after FMCG major reported 0.49 per cent rise in net profit at Rs 333.11 crore for the quarter ended March 31, 2017, from Rs 331.48 crore in the year ago quarter.

On Friday, the key domestic benchmark indices ended lower on first day of May series as investors booked profits in index heavyweights such as ITC, HDFC, HDFC Bank and Bharti Airtel ahead of a long weekend. The Bombay Stock Exchange bellwether Sensex closed at 29918.4 down by 111.34 points or by 0.37 per cent, while the NSE Nifty was at 9304.05, trading lower by 38.1 points or by 0.41 per cent. Top traded Volumes on NSE Nifty were Hindalco Industries Ltd. 17428449.00, State Bank of India 14152004.00, ITC Ltd. 12374841.00, Bank of Baroda 11823024.00, Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd. 10789077.00.

On NSE, total number of shares traded was 141.41 Crore and total turnover stood at Rs. 26516.78 Crore. On NSE Future and Options, total number of contracts traded in index futures was 162463 with a total turnover of Rs. 12551.30 Crore. Along with this total number of contracts traded in stock futures were 721270 with a total turnover of Rs. 54764.29 Crore. Total numbers of contracts for index options were 2416196 with a total turnover of Rs. 194930.44 Crore and total numbers of contracts for stock options were 362505 with a total turnover of Rs. 29108.72 Crore.

As on April 28, 2017, the FIIs emerged as net buyer in debt segment, but net seller in equity market. Gross equity purchased stood at Rs. 6398.12 Crore and gross debt purchased stood at Rs. 1625.80 Crore, while the gross equity sold stood at Rs. 6420.92 Crore and gross debt sold stood at Rs. 731.29 Crore. Therefore, the net investment of equity and debt reported were Rs. -22.80 Crore and Rs. 894.51.
