The key domestic benchmark indices edged higher, paring early losses in lackluster trade on Monday tracking muted Asian cues as investors across the globe weighed comments from Fed Chair Janet Yellen who on Friday stressed that the case for monetary tightening in the world’s biggest economy had strengthened, curbing the lure for risky assets.

At 12:15 PM, the Bombay Stock Exchange bellwether Sensex was at 27797.44, up by 15.19 points or by 0.05 per cent, and the NSE Nifty was at 8576, up by 3.45 points or by 0.04 per cent.

While Yellen stopped short of unveiling the specific timing of a Fed rate hike, Fed Vice Chairman Stanley Fisher indicated the possibility of September tightening. An earlier than expected Fed move may result in volatility in capital flows into emerging markets including Asia’s third biggest economy.

On the sectoral front, auto and capital goods stocks were among top gainers on BSE, adding as much as 1.12 per cent and 0.73 per cent respectively.
