Indian equity benchmarks are likely to witness a gap up opening on Tuesday tracking a bullish trend across most markets in Asia and a positive finish at Wall Street overnight as opinion polls showed that Hillary Clinton was ahead of Donald Trump by three percentage points as the US Presidential election day dawned, bolstering risk taking appetite. Gains in the SGX Nifty Index Futures for November delivery which were trading at 8,535, up by 90 points or 1.05 per cent at 10:34 AM Singapore time, signal that the Sensex may open higher today. Shares of BHEL and Tata Communications will be in focus today as the companies reveal their September quarter earnings. Private sector lender ICICI Bank’s stock may witness some upward momentum as the bank in after-market hours on Monday reported a better than estimated Q2 profit even as provisions for bad loans rose amid deteriorating asset quality. The lender’s standalone net profit rose 2.4 per cent year-on-year to Rs 3,102.3 crore in Q2 FY 2016-17. The 30-share Sensex on Monday rallied by 184.84 points or by 0.68 per cent at 27,458.99 after the Federal Bureau of Investigation maintained the opinion that Hillary Clinton’s handling of her e-mails wasn’t a crime, raising hopes of the Democrat emerging victorious in the race for the White House.

Most Asian stocks rose as Americans were set to cast their ballots in the US Presidential election with speculation rife of a Clinton win, bolstering the appetite for risky assets. Shanghai Composite and Hang Seng were higher, while Nikkei 225 succumbed to modest losses. Wall Street ended higher on Monday after Clinton received an FBI boost, raising her chances of victory.

Along with this total number of contracts traded in stock futures were 452325 with a total turnover of Rs. 30846.49 Crore. Total numbers of contracts for index options were 2015253 with a total turnover of Rs. 138846.05 Crore and total numbers of contracts for stock options were 317896 with a total turnover of Rs. 22336.85 Crore.

The FIIs on 07/11/2016 stood as net buyer in equity and debt. Gross equity purchased stood at Rs. 5125.38 Crore and gross debt purchased stood at Rs. 827.53 Crore, while the gross equity sold stood at Rs. 4632.80 Crore and gross debt sold stood at Rs. 344.80 Crore. Therefore, the net investment of equity and debt reported were Rs. 492.58 Crore and Rs. 482.73 Crore.
