The Indian equities extended rally on Thursday on continued optimism over higher-than-expected GDP growth rate and sustained buying by foreign and retail investors, tracking firm cues from Asian peers. However, profit booking across broader market, with MidCap and SmallCap indices falling between 0.1-0.2 per cent, restricted day’s gain. DLF plummeted nearly 4 per cent after the realty major said that it has decided to sell 40 per cent stake in the company’s rental arm DCCDL in a deal worth Rs 12,500 crore-Rs 13,000 crore to Singapore-based private equity firm GIC. Auto majors, Tata Motors and Hero MotoCorp, were trading higher post February sales number.

At 12:26 hour, the Bombay Stock Exchange bellwether Sensex was trading at 29068.67, up by 84.18 points or by 0.29 per cent, and the NSE Nifty was at 8970.5, up by 24.7 points or by 0.28 per cent.

During the day’s trade so far, the BSE Sensex touched an intraday high of 29145.62 and intraday low of 29041.39, while the NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 8992.5 and intraday low of 8961.45.

Meanwhile, the Indian Rupee was trading higher by 10 paise against the greenback as banks and exporters sustained selling of the dollar. The fresh fund inflows by foreign portfolio investors in local equity and debt markets also supported home currency movement.

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Tata Motors Ltd. (Rs. 465.50,+3.65%), Bajaj Auto Ltd. (Rs. 2833.00,+2.16%), Hero MotoCorp Ltd. (Rs. 3242.55,+1.84%), Wipro Ltd. (Rs. 494.70,+1.34%), ICICI Bank Ltd. (Rs. 282.60,+1.29%), among others.

Meanwhile, Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (Rs. 679.80,-2.09%), Bharti Airtel Ltd. (Rs. 357.60,-1.38%), Dr. Reddy's Laboratories Ltd. (Rs. 2887.15,-1.36%), NTPC Ltd. (Rs. 158.25,-1.12%), Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. (Rs. 191.20,-0.70%), were among the top losers on BSE.

On the sectoral front, auto and capital goods stocks were leading the gain, rising as much as 1.19 per cent and 0.55 per cent respectively.

The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 2867, shares advanced were 1289 while 1410 shares declined and 168 were unchanged.
