The Indian equities stayed under selling pressure in late morning deal on Monday, weighed down by losses across metal, pharma, energy, telecom, oil&gas, FMCG and auto stocks, tracking weakness in fellow Asian stocks. Reliance Industries tanked over 2 per cent after capital market regulator the Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) penalized the Mukesh Ambani’s company for unlawful transactions and imposed a one-year ban on it from trading in equity derivatives. Among others, Coal India dipped over 2 per cent after the stock traded ex-interim dividend for Rs 1.15 per share.

At 12:17 hour, the Bombay Stock Exchange bellwether Sensex was trading at 29195.93, down by 225.47 points or by 0.77 per cent, and the NSE Nifty was at 9039.15, down by 68.85 points or by 0.76 per cent.

During the day’s trade so far, the BSE Sensex touched an intraday high of 29420.7 and intraday low of 29194.96, while the NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 9094.85 and intraday low of 9032.95.

The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 478.55,-2.97%), Reliance Industries Ltd. (Rs. 1257.15,-2.26%), Coal India Ltd. (Rs. 291.70,-2.13%), Lupin Ltd. (Rs. 1458.35,-1.70%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (Rs. 691.70,-1.65%), among others.

On the flip side, State Bank of India (Rs. 277.60,+0.56%), Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. (Rs. 194.65,+0.49%), Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (Rs. 903.95,+0.47%), Dr. Reddy's Laboratories Ltd. (Rs. 2635.00,+0.45%), were among the top gainers on BSE.

On the sectoral front, metal and pharma stocks were leading the decline, falling as much as 2.11 per cent and 0.85 per cent respectively.

The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 2728, shares advanced were 1088 while 1441 shares declined and 199 were unchanged.
