The key domestic benchmarks were trading flat with slightly positive bias in lackluster trade on low trading volume as many foreign institutional investors remained away ahead of the Christmas holidays. Weakness in IT and Teck stocks coupled with muted cues from fellow Asian peers restricted upmove.

At 12:22 hours, the 30-share barometer index of Bombay Stock Exchange, Sensex was at 26007.97, up by 28.37 points or by 0.11 per cent, and the NSE Nifty was at 7982.25, up by 3.15 points or by 0.04 per cent.

In the day’s trade so far, the BSE Sensex touched intraday high of 26031.03 and intraday low of 25872.38, while the NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 7991.2 and intraday low of 7942.05.

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (Rs. 623.00,+2.27%), Bajaj Auto Ltd. (Rs. 2613.50,+1.83%), Asian Paints Ltd. (Rs. 879.45,+1.14%), Larsen & Toubro Ltd. (Rs. 1330.95,+1.11%), Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (Rs. 5130.00,+0.90%), among others.

On the flip side, Tata Motors Ltd. (Rs. 463.40,-1.33%), Axis Bank Ltd. (Rs. 442.50,-1.33%), ITC Ltd. (Rs. 225.00,-0.99%), Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (Rs. 2290.50,-0.84%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 1174.00,-0.77%), were among top losers on BSE.

On the sectoral front, capital goods and consumer durable stocks emerged as top gainers, adding as much as 0.76 per cent and 0.65 per cent respectively.

The market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was strong. On BSE out of total shares traded 2460, shares advanced were 1303 while 1005 shares declined and 152 were unchanged.
