Mid-Session: Sensex surges 250 pts, Nifty above 10,100; rate sensitive stocks rally

The Indian equities continued gaining momentum on Thursday, tracking firm cues from Asian peers, as investors cheered the Federal Reserve's decision to leave interest rates unchanged, while upbeat corporate earnings also gave a boost to market sentiment. On the sectoral front, rate sensitive bank and realty stocks emerged as top gainers on BSE, rising as much as 1.12 per cent and 0.63 per cent respectively.
At 12:20 hours, the 30-share benchmark index was trading at 32629.67, up by 247.21 points or by 0.76 per cent, and the NSE Nifty was at 10104.25, up by 83.6 points or by 0.83 per cent.
In the day’s trade so-far, Sensex touched intraday high of 32672.66 and intraday low of 32492.01, while the NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 10114.85 and intraday low of 10054.95.
The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 1703.80,+4.32%), HDFC Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1781.55,+1.82%), Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (Rs. 1182.00,+1.52%), State Bank of India (Rs. 299.10,+1.13%), Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (Rs. 7662.15,+1.11%), among others.
On the flip side, Bharti Airtel Ltd. (Rs. 416.60,-2.26%), Tata Motors Ltd. (Rs. 267.80,-1.00%), Cipla Ltd. (Rs. 569.70,-0.89%), Tata Motors Ltd. (Rs. 453.20,-0.78%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (Rs. 574.35,-0.71%), were among top losers on BSE.
The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 2687, shares advanced were 1077 while 1452 shares declined and 158 were unchanged.
