Pre-Session: Sensex, Nifty likely to start in green

Indian benchmarks are expected to start the day on a positive note on Thursday. However, a volatile trade is expected today ahead of the expiry of Futures and Options (F&O) contracts for the September series. Trends on SGX Nifty also indicate a positive opening for the broader index in India. Nifty futures were trading around 11,505-level on the Singaporean Exchange. A major factor in today's trade would be US President Donald Trump's comment that a deal to end a nearly 15-month trade war with China "could happen sooner than people think". The prospect of the year-long trade war nearing its end could boost investor sentiment. On the global front, the S&P 500 notched its biggest daily gain in two weeks on Wednesday as investors shrugged off the news of an impeachment inquiry into President Donald Trump, while Nike shares jumped on upbeat quarterly results. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 162.94 points, or 0.61%, to 26,970.71, the S&P 500 gained 18.27 points, or 0.62%, to 2,984.87 and the Nasdaq Composite added 83.76 points, or 1.05%, to 8,077.38. Further, Asian stocks edged up on Thursday as hopes the United States and China may soon end their year-long trade war boosted demand for riskier assets while worries about a US presidential impeachment bid ebbed. MSCI's broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan was up 0.1%. Japan's Nikkei rose 0.45%. Australian shares were up 0.13%. Back home, on Wednesday, the 30-share benchmark ended at 38593.52 down by 503.62 points or by 1.29 % and then NSE Nifty was at 11440.2 down by 148 points.
