The key domestic benchmark indices continued to trade lower with marginal losses in late morning deal on Monday as investors resorted to profit booking ahead of Union Budget, tracking weak cues from Asian peers. Traders also remained wary about US President Donald Trump’s protectionist policies and uncertainty over GAAR.
At 12:27 hours, the 30-share barometer index of Bombay Stock Exchange, Sensex was at 27843.88, down by 38.58 points or by 0.14 per cent, and the NSE Nifty was at 8630.6, down by 10.65 points or by 0.12 per cent.
In the day’s trade so far, the BSE Sensex touched intraday high of 27916.2 and intraday low of 27813.32, while the NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 8650.15 and intraday low of 8617.75.
The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Tata Motors Ltd. (Rs. 536.25,-1.49%), Wipro Ltd. (Rs. 459.50,-1.42%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 1236.60,-1.19%), Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (Rs. 2331.90,-1.11%), Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 464.05,-1.11%), among others.
On the flip side, Bharti Airtel Ltd. (Rs. 338.30,+4.59%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (Rs. 649.35,+1.51%), Dr. Reddy's Laboratories Ltd. (Rs. 3025.00,+0.87%), Larsen & Toubro Ltd. (Rs. 1451.50,+0.82%), Reliance Industries Ltd. (Rs. 1033.15,+0.78%), were among top gainers on BSE.
On the sectoral front, auto and consumer durables stocks were leading the decline, falling as much as 0.82 per cent and 0.68 per cent respectively.
The market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 2790, shares advanced were 1229 while 1346 shares declined and 215 were unchanged.
