Indian equities are poised to open higher in the morning trading session as Asian shares were steady on Friday and were on track for a solid advance this week, while oil and the dollar held onto gains in the wake of strong US corporate earnings.

Muted trend in the SGX Nifty Index Futures for January delivery, which were trading at 8660, down by 34.50 points or 0.40 per cent, at 10:50 AM Singapore time, signalled that gains will be capped for Sensex.

On Wednesday, The Indian equities continued their gaining streak for the third straight session on expiry of January series F&O contracts as banking stocks extended rally on strong quarterly results, tracking firm cues from Asian peers.

The 30-share barometer index of Bombay Stock Exchange, Sensex closed trade at 27708.14, up by 332.56 points or by 1.21 per cent, and the NSE Nifty ended at 8602.75, up by 126.95 points or by 1.5 per cent.

Top traded Volumes on NSE Nifty – ICICI Bank Ltd. 37343712.00, Idea Cellular Ltd. 24904002.00, Hindalco Industries Ltd. 21241955.00, ITC Ltd. 17451497.00, State Bank of India 16343545.00. On NSE, total number of shares traded was 137.52 Crore and total turnover stood at Rs. 30629.07 Crore.

On NSE Future and Options, total number of contracts traded in index futures was 526621 with a total turnover of Rs. 35800.58 Crore. Along with this total number of contracts traded in stock futures were 1688413 with a total turnover of Rs. 113384.09 Crore. Total numbers of contracts for index options were 9555896 with a total turnover of Rs. 661665.22 Crore. and total numbers of contracts for stock options were 664009 with a total turnover of Rs. 47555.66 Crore. The FIIs on 25/01/2017 stood as net buyer in equity and debt. Gross equity purchased stood at Rs. 5153.98 Crore and gross debt purchased stood at Rs. 772.29 Crore, while the gross equity sold stood at Rs. 5043.48 Crore and gross debt sold stood at Rs. 1027.88 Crore. Therefore, the net investment of equity and debt reported were Rs. 110.50 Crore and Rs. -255.59
