Indian equities are poised to open higher on Tuesday, tracking firm cues from fellow Asian peers as investors were buoyed by robust Chinese Caixin manufacturing PMI which rose to 51.9 in December. Markets in US remained closed on the eve of the New Year holiday. Back home, India Manufacturing Purchasing Managers’ Index declined to 49.6 in December from 52.3 in November, with a reading below 50 signaling contraction, dented by the demonetization move. Firm trend in the SGX Nifty Index Futures for January delivery, which were trading at 8,204.00, up by 19.5 points or 0.24 per cent, at 10:52 AM Singapore time, also signaled a positive start for Sensex.

On Monday, Indian equity benchmarks ended tad lower, paring most of early losses, on the first trading session of the calendar year 2017, helped by strong rally in the broader markets, with Mid cap and Small cap indices gaining between 0.8 per cent-1.2 per cent. Financial stocks, such as SBI and ICICI Bank, witnessed sharp selling after Prime Minister Narendra Modi appealed to banks to priorities their lending towards the poor and middle class in his address to nation on New Year's Eve. The 30-share barometer index of Bombay Stock Exchange, Sensex closed trade at 26595.45, down by 31.01 points or by 0.12 per cent, and the NSE Nifty ended at 8179.5, down by 6.3 points or by 0.08 per cent.

Top traded Volumes on NSE Nifty were State Bank of India 25988990.00, Bank of Baroda 9644457.00, Hindalco Industries Ltd. 9537127.00, ICICI Bank Ltd. 9458500.00, Tata Steel Ltd. 5578129.00.

On NSE, total number of shares traded was 78.74 Crore and total turnover stood at Rs. 13590.33 Crore.

On NSE Future and Options, total number of contracts traded in index futures was 209335 with a total turnover of Rs. 13846.53 Crore. Along with this total number of contracts traded in stock futures were 450946 with a total turnover of Rs. 28814.65 Crore. Total numbers of contracts for index options were 2953811 with a total turnover of Rs. 200643.32 Crore and total numbers of contracts for stock options were 226332 with a total turnover of Rs. 15164.94 Crore.

The FIIs on January 02, 2017 stood as net seller in equity but net buyer in debt segment. Gross equity purchased stood at Rs. 2231.13 Crore and gross debt purchased stood at Rs. 1000.43 Crore, while the gross equity sold stood at Rs. 2910.00 Crore and gross debt sold stood at Rs. 524.52 Crore. Therefore, the net investment of equity and debt reported were Rs. -678.87 Crore and Rs. 475.91.
