* AUTOMOBILE: Former Nissan boss Ghosn will be spending Christmas and the beginning of 2019 behind bars after a Tokyo court Sunday extended his detention through to Jan 1. Cars and utility vehicles are tipped to become costlier by 10-25% over the course of the next year as they become BS VI-compliant.

* AVIATION: The Ministry of Civil Aviation has put on block all overseas properties of Air India as part of a revival plan that includes sale of the airline's non-core assets, Minister of State for Civil Aviation Jayant Sinha said.
- The civil aviation ministry has disbursed 1.1 bln rupees so far to six airlines as viability gap funding under the UDAN-Regional Connectivity Scheme, Minister of State for Aviation Jayant Sinha said.
- The government has formed an inter-ministerial committee of three ministers of Cabinet rank to decide if an international flying permit should be given to Vistara.

* COMMODITIES: The government is considering to extend an additional soft loan of 74 bln rupees to sugar mills to create ethanol capacity under a recently launched scheme.

* ENERGY: Wind developers in Tamil Nadu are up in arms over the state's power regulator approving a ceiling tariff for a forthcoming auction, which is even lower than the feed-in tariff the regulator had prescribed, even as they were complaining that the feed-in tariff itself was unrealistically low.

* EXCHANGES: The extension of trading hours might not become a reality anytime soon as the Securities and Exchange Board of India, stock exchanges and brokers are yet to agree on how it would be implemented.

* FINANCE: The Reserve Bank of India has cancelled the registration of 1,490 non-banking  financial companies (NBFCs).

* INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY: IT and IT-enabled services companies would now be able to avail refunds on taxes paid on inputs used in servicing global contracts jointly with their foreign outfits.
- The Reserve Bank of India has shortlisted six major IT companies, including TATA CONSULTANCY
SERVICES, WIPRO and IBM India, to set up a wide-based digital Public Credit Registry for capturing details of all borrowers and willful defaulters.

* POWER: The government is negotiating tariffs with New York-listed Azure Power, the only project
developer that responded positively to its manufacturing-linked solar tender.
- The government will soon auction power transmission contracts worth over 80 bln rupees, connecting renewable energy projects in western and northern states. However, it has deferred a decision on lines worth 55 bln rupees. Rays Power Infra has plans to enter electric vehicle space with business-to-business services.

* TAXATION: Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said that the Centre was optimistic of meeting the fiscal deficit target of 3.3% despite being "little behind the schedule" on its target for indirect tax revenue for the current financial year ending March.

* TELECOMMUNICATION: The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India has asked all telecom companies to file tariffs online from January, and has done away with submitting physical copy of their plans to the regulator.
